Ecommerce SEO Services: An Ecommerce SEO Agency for Online Stores

By the PNext team · Updated 20 October 2026

Ecommerce SEO is different from SEO for a service business. A store has hundreds or thousands of product pages, filters that can create millions of URLs, products that go out of stock, and descriptions copied from the manufacturer that appear on fifty other sites. Most of the gains come from fixing those problems at scale, not from writing more blog posts.

Our ecommerce SEO services focus on the pages that make money: categories and products. This page explains what we work on, how we handle the technical side on platforms like Shopify and WooCommerce, and how we report results in revenue rather than rankings.

The short answer

What are ecommerce SEO services?

Ecommerce SEO services improve how an online store ranks in Google for the searches shoppers make, so more of them find and buy your products without paid ads. The work covers category and product page optimisation, technical fixes for filters and duplicate URLs, product structured data, site speed, internal linking and buying guides, measured by organic revenue.

What we do

What our ecommerce SEO services cover

01

Technical audit

Crawl the whole store, find index bloat, duplicate URLs, broken products, slow templates and missing structured data.

02

Keyword and category map

Match the searches shoppers use to the category and subcategory pages that should rank, and find the gaps where you need new categories.

03

Category page optimisation

Titles, headings, intro copy, filters and internal links for your most valuable collections.

04

Product page optimisation

Unique descriptions for priority products, product schema, reviews, images and out-of-stock handling.

05

Content that sells

Buying guides and comparisons that answer questions before purchase and link to the right categories.

06

Authority

Links and mentions from relevant sites, gift guides and industry publications.

The money pages

Category page SEO

For most stores, category pages are where organic revenue comes from. Someone searching “women’s trail running shoes” wants a range to choose from, not a single product, so Google tends to rank category pages for those searches.

  • One clear target per category. Title and heading built around the main search, such as “Women’s Trail Running Shoes”.
  • A short, useful introduction. Two or three sentences that help a shopper choose, placed where they do not push products below the fold.
  • Subcategories that match real searches. If people search “waterproof trail running shoes”, that deserves its own indexable page.
  • Internal links from the menu, related categories and guides, so authority flows to the pages that sell.
  • Pagination that search engines can follow, using normal links rather than buttons that only work with JavaScript.
Product pages

Product page SEO and structured data

Product pages rank for specific searches: model names, sizes, colours and “buy” searches. The biggest problem we see is manufacturer descriptions copied word for word, which gives Google no reason to choose your page over every other retailer’s.

Unique descriptions for priority products

We rewrite the products that matter most first, adding fit, use, materials and the questions customers actually ask.

Product structured data

Price, availability, reviews, shipping and returns marked up so Google can show rich results. Google’s product structured data documentation sets out what is supported.

Merchant Center

A clean product feed lets your products appear in free listings on Google Shopping as well as in paid Shopping ads.

Out-of-stock and discontinued products

Keep temporarily unavailable products live and marked as out of stock; redirect discontinued ones to the closest alternative or category.

The technical trap

Faceted navigation and duplicate URLs

Filters for size, colour, price and brand are great for shoppers and dangerous for SEO. Every combination can create a new URL, and a store with a few thousand products can end up with millions of filtered pages that search engines try to crawl.

Google’s own guidance on faceted navigation gives two options: if filtered pages do not need to appear in search, stop them being crawled; if some do, make their URLs clean and consistent. In practice we usually do both:

  • Choose a short list of filter pages worth indexing, the ones that match real searches like “black leather boots”.
  • Give those pages clean URLs, unique titles and copy, and link to them.
  • Keep the rest out of the crawl, typically with robots.txt rules for filter parameters, so crawling is spent on products and categories.
  • Return a proper 404 for filter combinations with no products.
Platform specifics

Shopify, WooCommerce and other platforms

PlatformCommon SEO issuesWhat we do
ShopifyProducts reachable through several collection URLs, tag pages creating thin duplicates, limited control over robots.txt and URL structureLink to the main product URL from collections, manage tag pages, edit robots.txt.liquid where needed, fix theme speed and schema
WooCommerceAttribute and tag archives indexed, slow hosting and plugin bloat, pagination and filter plugins creating parametersControl which archives are indexed, clean up plugins, improve hosting and caching, add product schema
Magento (Adobe Commerce)Layered navigation creating huge numbers of URLs, slow page loadsRestrict layered navigation crawling, canonical rules, performance work with your developers
BigCommerce and headless storesJavaScript rendering, duplicate URLs between storefront and appRendering checks, server-side rendering advice, URL and canonical rules

If your store also runs paid Shopping campaigns, our Google Shopping ads and Amazon PPC teams share the same keyword and product data, so SEO and ads support each other.

Pricing

What affects the cost of ecommerce SEO

Ecommerce SEO is quoted after an audit, because the work depends far more on the store than on a standard package. These are the main factors:

Catalogue size

A store with 200 products and 15 categories needs far less than one with 50,000 products.

Platform and access

How much of the theme, robots.txt and URL structure we can change, and whether your developers are involved.

Product content

How many product descriptions need rewriting, which is often the largest part of the work.

Competition

Some categories are dominated by marketplaces and large retailers, which takes more content and links to break into.

Services that improve how an online store ranks in Google for shopping searches, covering category and product pages, technical fixes for filters and duplicates, product schema, speed, content and links, measured by organic revenue.

It audits your store, maps keywords to categories and products, fixes technical issues such as faceted navigation and duplicate URLs, improves category and product pages, adds structured data, creates buying guides and builds links.

Stores have far more pages, product filters that create duplicate URLs, stock changes and copied manufacturer descriptions. The work focuses on fixing these at scale through templates and categories.

Yes. We work with Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce and headless stores, and adapt the technical work to what each platform allows.

Start with the products that sell most or have the most search demand. Rewriting every product at once is rarely the best use of budget on a large catalogue.

Technical fixes can show results within a few months. Category and content improvements usually build over six to twelve months.

Keep temporarily unavailable products live and marked as out of stock. Redirect permanently discontinued products to the closest alternative or their category.
