SEO for Contractors: Local SEO for Plumbers, Roofers, HVAC and Home Services
By the PNext team · Updated 20 October 2026
When a pipe bursts or the AC stops in July, nobody reads ten websites. They search, look at the map, check the reviews and call one of the first three businesses they see. For contractors, SEO is mostly about being one of those three.
This page explains how our SEO for contractors works: Google Maps rankings, service and service-area pages, reviews, and how plumbers, roofers and HVAC companies each need a slightly different approach.

What is SEO for contractors?
SEO for contractors is local search optimisation for trades and home service businesses such as plumbers, roofers, electricians and HVAC companies. It focuses on ranking in Google Maps and local results through a strong Google Business Profile, reviews, service and service-area pages, local links and fast mobile pages with click-to-call.
What our SEO for contractors covers
Google Business Profile
The right categories, services, service areas, photos and hours, including emergency availability.
Service pages
One page per service you want more of, such as water heater replacement or roof repair.
Service-area pages
For towns you genuinely serve, with local detail rather than copied text.
Reviews
A simple ask-and-reply process that builds a steady flow.
Mobile and calls
Fast pages with a visible phone number and click-to-call.
Tracking
Call tracking so you know which pages and searches bring jobs.
Plumber SEO, roofer SEO and HVAC SEO
Plumber SEO
Emergency and “near me” searches dominate, so 24/7 availability, response times and click-to-call matter most. Service pages for drains, water heaters and leak detection capture higher-value jobs.
Roofer SEO
Searches spike after storms. Pages for roof repair, replacement and insurance claims, with real project photos, build trust for large jobs.
HVAC SEO
Strong seasonality: AC repair in summer, furnace repair in winter. Seasonal content and maintenance plan pages smooth out the year.
Electricians and other trades
The same principles: clear services, licensing details, areas served and reviews.
For paid leads alongside SEO, our HVAC and plumber PPC page covers Local Services Ads and call campaigns.
Service-area pages done right
Many contractor websites have dozens of town pages with the same text and a different town name. Google often ignores them, and they can drag the whole site down. A useful service-area page includes something specific to that place: the jobs you do there, local housing types or water hardness, permits, response times and real reviews from customers in that area.
If you serve customers at their address rather than from a storefront, Google’s rules let you hide your address and set a service area on your profile instead.
Map pack rankings and reviews
- Ask every happy customer for a review, ideally by text with a direct link, the same day the job is finished.
- Reply to every review, including negative ones, briefly and professionally.
- Add photos of real jobs regularly; they show activity and help customers choose.
- Keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere, from Google to Yelp and Angi.
Real estate SEO
Real estate agents and brokerages face a similar local challenge with a different twist: portals like Zillow and Realtor.com dominate many searches. Real estate SEO works best with neighbourhood and market guides, agent pages with real local knowledge, and a strong Google Business Profile.
