Local SEO Checklist for Dubai Businesses: 15 Steps to Rank in Google Maps

By the PNext team in the UAE · Updated 18 October 2026

When someone in Dubai searches for a dentist, a car service or a lawyer, Google usually shows a map with three businesses before any normal website. Those three spots get a large share of the calls.

Getting into that map pack is less about your website and more about your Google Business Profile, your reviews and how consistently your business details appear across the web. The good news is that most of it is work you can do yourself.

Here is the checklist we use when we start local SEO for a business in the UAE, in the order we usually do it.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
  • ✓How the Google map pack decides who to show
  • ✓Setting up your Business Profile properly
  • ✓Reviews that actually help rankings
  • ✓Location pages that are worth having
  • ✓How to measure what Maps brings you
The short answer

How do I rank my Dubai business on Google Maps?

Verify your Google Business Profile, choose the right primary category, keep your name, address and phone identical everywhere online, collect and answer reviews regularly, and build a useful page for each area you really serve. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, and these steps cover the two you can influence.

The basics

How Google decides who shows in the Dubai map pack

Google says local results are based on three things: relevance, distance and prominence (Google’s own explanation). Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from the person searching. Prominence is how well known and trusted your business looks, which includes reviews and mentions across the web.

You cannot move your office closer to every customer, so the work goes into relevance and prominence. In a city as spread out as Dubai, that matters: someone in Dubai Marina searching “physiotherapist” will rarely see a clinic in Deira, however good it is, unless the clinic is clearly the most relevant and prominent option.

Demand is real. Our own Ahrefs data shows around 500 searches a month in the UAE for “local seo dubai” alone, from businesses looking for help with exactly this.

Steps 1 to 6

Get your Google Business Profile right

01

Claim and verify your profile

Use the business owner’s Google account, not a freelancer’s, so you never lose access.

02

Choose the right primary category

This is the single strongest relevance signal. Pick the category that matches what most customers search for, then add a few secondary ones.

03

Use your real business name

Adding keywords like “Best Dentist Dubai” to the name breaks Google’s guidelines and can get the profile suspended.

04

Add services, hours and area served

Fill in every field that applies, including holiday hours and Ramadan hours when they change.

05

Upload real photos

Your team, premises, signage and work. Stock photos add nothing.

06

Post every week

Offers, recent projects or answers to common questions. It keeps the profile active and gives people a reason to call.

Steps 7 to 10

Build reviews and consistent business details

07

Ask every happy customer for a review

Send the direct review link by WhatsApp straight after a good experience. Timing matters more than wording.

08

Reply to every review

Thank people for positive ones and answer negative ones calmly with a way to resolve it. Future customers read your replies.

09

Keep your name, address and phone identical

Use exactly the same details on your website, Google, Apple Maps, Bing Places and UAE directories. Mismatches confuse Google about which listing is real.

10

List on relevant UAE directories

Choose a handful of genuine directories for your industry and city rather than hundreds of low-quality ones.

Never buy reviews or offer discounts in return for five stars. Google removes them, and it can suspend the whole profile.

Steps 11 to 13

Make your website support your local rankings

11

Create a page for each area you really serve

A page for Dubai Marina or Abu Dhabi only helps if it says something specific: the team there, local projects, directions, parking. Copy-pasted pages with the area name swapped do not.

12

Add local schema markup

LocalBusiness or a more specific type, with the same address and phone as your profile.

13

Make the site fast on a phone

Most local searches happen on mobile data. Test the pages people land on from Maps.

Local SEO works best alongside the rest of your search work. If your website itself struggles to rank, our SEO agency in Dubai team usually starts with the technical basics before any local pages.

Steps 14 and 15

Track what Google Maps brings you

14

Track calls, directions and WhatsApp taps

Your Business Profile shows calls and direction requests. Add a tracked link for website visits so they show separately in GA4.

15

Check your profile every month

The public can suggest edits to your hours, address or category, and Google sometimes accepts them without telling you.

If you also run ads, local search campaigns can show your business above the map pack while your organic rankings build up. Our Google Ads agency in Dubai team sets these up with calls tracked as leads.

Simple fixes to a Business Profile can change rankings within a few weeks. Building enough reviews and local signals to compete for busy searches usually takes three to six months.

You need a real location where you meet customers, or you can set up a service-area business that travels to customers and hide your address. Virtual offices usually break Google’s rules.

There is no magic number. Aim to match or beat the businesses already in the top three for your search, and keep reviews coming in steadily rather than in one burst.

No. Use your real business name. Adding keywords breaks Google’s guidelines and can lead to the profile being suspended.

Partly. Your map rankings are strongest near your address. Useful location pages and reviews from customers in other areas can help you appear further away.

Local SEO focuses on Google Maps and nearby searches, so the Business Profile, reviews and directory listings matter most. Normal SEO focuses on your website ranking in the regular results.
