Best AI Overviews Rank Tracking Tools (2026): 12 Trackers Compared, Free and Paid

By the PNext team · Updated 26 October 2026

Google Search Console tells you that clicks fell. It does not tell you that an AI Overview appeared above your result, or which competitor it cited instead. For that you need an AI Overviews tracker: a tool that records the full results page for your keywords, week after week.

Two kinds of tool now do this. Rank tracking software you may already pay for, such as Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking and AccuRanker, has added AI Overview data next to normal positions. A newer group, including ZipTie, Otterly.AI and Profound, was built for AI search from the start and tracks Overviews alongside ChatGPT and Perplexity. Below we compare eight options, with honest pros and cons, and show a free way to check by hand before you spend anything.

The short answer

What is the best AI Overviews tracker?

For AI Overview rank tracking, start with the rank tracker you already pay for: Semrush, SE Ranking, AccuRanker and Nightwatch all record AI Overviews next to normal positions. For Google AI Overviews plus ChatGPT and Perplexity in one report, look at ZipTie, Otterly.AI, Peec AI or Profound. Search Console is free but cannot isolate Overviews.

The basics

What an AI Overviews tracker measures

  • Presence: which of your tracked keywords show an AI Overview, and how often.
  • Citation: whether your domain is linked in the Overview, and which page.
  • Competitors: which other domains are cited for the same keywords.
  • Position impact: where your normal ranking sits below the Overview, which explains click changes.

Because Overviews come and go for the same query, the useful view is a trend over weeks, not a single day. If you need the background first, read what a Google AI Overview is.

Prices change often and reviews disagree, so the figures below are starting prices reported in 2026 comparisons such as Superlines, LLM Pulse, Dupple and ToolDirectory. Treat them as a guide and check each vendor’s pricing page before you buy. Whichever AI Overviews tool you pick, run it for a month before judging it, since Overviews change week to week.

01

Semrush Position Tracking

Rank tracking software · AI Overview presence and citations

Flags which tracked keywords show an Overview and whether your domain is cited, in the same view as your normal positions.

Good: No new tool to learn if your team already uses Semrush; AI data sits next to the rankings and competitors you already watch.

Watch out: Costs add up once you need the AI Toolkit on top of a paid plan, and it is more suite than most small sites need.

02

Ahrefs Brand Radar

AI visibility index · citation sources

Shows which domains Google cites across a whole topic, not just your keyword list.

Good: The best view we know of the sites worth earning mentions on, which feeds straight into link building and PR.

Watch out: Priced per AI index, so covering several engines gets expensive; it is a research tool more than a weekly tracker.

03

SE Ranking

Rank tracking software · AI results tracking

A full rank tracker with AI Overview tracking included in its plans, plus ChatGPT and Perplexity tracking.

Good: Strong value for smaller agencies and in-house teams who want one affordable tool.

Watch out: Fewer research features than Semrush or Ahrefs, so you may still want a second tool for backlinks.

04

AccuRanker

Rank tracking software · AI Overviews via AccuLLM add-on

A rank tracker known for speed and large keyword sets, with unlimited users and domains on every plan.

Good: Handles thousands of keywords well, which suits agencies and large sites.

Watch out: AI Overview tracking is sold separately, and the entry price is high if you only track a few hundred keywords.

05

ZipTie

AI Overviews checker · also ChatGPT and Perplexity

Built around AI search from the start, with the deepest focus on Google AI Overviews of the newer tools.

Good: Detailed Overview data, including which sources are cited and how that changes, without paying for a full SEO suite.

Watch out: Narrower engine coverage than Profound, and reviews report different price tiers, so confirm what a check costs before committing.

06

Otterly.AI

AI visibility tool · multi-engine

Tracks a set of prompts across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and others.

Good: The cheapest way to start tracking several AI engines at once.

Watch out: Prompt-based rather than keyword-based, so it does not replace a rank tracker for normal positions.

07

Profound

AI visibility platform · enterprise

Deep reporting across many AI engines, markets and languages.

Good: Built for large brands that need AI visibility reporting at board level.

Watch out: More than most small and mid-size businesses need, at a price to match.

08

Google Search Console

Free · trend data

Includes AI Overview clicks and impressions in your normal web search data.

Good: Free, accurate and already connected to your site.

Watch out: There is no AI Overview filter, so you infer the effect from patterns rather than seeing it directly.

09

Nightwatch

Rank tracking software · AI visibility

An affordable rank tracker that also tracks visibility in AI engines alongside Google, Bing and YouTube positions.

Good: Low entry price with a free trial, so it suits small teams and freelancers.

Watch out: Fewer research features than the big suites; check which AI engines your plan includes.

10

Peec AI

AI visibility tool · multi-engine

Prompt-based tracking of brand mentions, citations and sources across AI engines, with competitor comparison.

Good: Clear competitor and source views, popular with agencies.

Watch out: Each plan covers a set number of AI models; extra engines cost more.

11

Scrunch AI

AI visibility platform

Monitors how AI engines describe your brand and which sources they rely on.

Good: Strong on understanding why engines say what they say.

Watch out: Priced above the entry tools, so best for brands with a real budget.

12

Rankscale

AI visibility tool · credits

Tracks prompts across a long list of generative engines on a credit model.

Good: Cheap to start and flexible for occasional checks.

Watch out: Every run uses credits, and the entry tier includes very few, so costs depend on how often you check.

A free AI Overviews checker method

Before paying for software, you can check your most important searches by hand. It takes about 30 minutes for 20 keywords, and it is the same process we use to sanity-check what paid tools report.

01

Pick 20 commercial keywords

The searches that bring enquiries, not every keyword you rank for. Search Console’s Performance report sorted by clicks is a good start.

02

Search in a clean browser

Use a private window, signed out of Google, so your own history does not change the results.

03

Set the location

If your buyers are in one country, search from there or add the location to the query, since Overviews vary by country.

04

Log three things

Whether an Overview appears, whether your site is linked in it, and which domains are linked instead.

05

Repeat weekly for a month

Overviews come and go for the same query, so one check tells you little. Four weeks shows a pattern.

If more than a handful of your money keywords show an Overview that cites a competitor, that is the point where a paid tracker earns its cost.

Buying guide

How to choose an AI Overviews tracker

01

Do you already pay for an SEO suite?

Good answer: Start with its AI features before adding a new tool. Semrush and Ahrefs both cover Overviews.

02

Do you need other AI engines too?

Good answer: If ChatGPT and Perplexity matter to your buyers, a multi-engine tool like Otterly.AI or Profound saves a second subscription.

03

How many keywords?

Good answer: Rank trackers price by keyword count. Track the commercial queries first, not every long-tail variation.

04

Do you need competitor citations?

Good answer: Seeing who Google cites instead of you is the most useful data for strategy. Check the tool shows it.

05

Daily or weekly?

Good answer: Weekly is enough for most businesses, and cheaper.

06

Can you export it?

Good answer: You will want to put this next to Search Console and GA4 data.

What an AI Overviews tracker cannot tell you

These tools are useful, but they are not a window into Google. Three limits are worth knowing before you build a report around them:

Results are a sample

Trackers check each keyword from a set location at a set time. A real searcher in a different city, or signed in, may see a different Overview, or none.

Citation is not the same as clicks

Pew Research found only about 1% of visits with an AI summary included a click on a link inside it. Being cited builds visibility; it does not guarantee traffic.

Tools disagree

Run the same keyword list through two trackers and the Overview rate will rarely match exactly. Pick one, and compare trends over time rather than absolute numbers between tools.

That is why we never report tracker data on its own. It sits next to Search Console clicks and the enquiries in your analytics, so a change in Overviews can be tied to a change in leads, or shown not to matter.

In practice

How we use these tools

We track a set of commercial keywords weekly, note where an Overview appears and who it cites, and compare that with Search Console clicks for the same pages. When an Overview cites a competitor for a query we care about, we open both pages side by side and look at what theirs does differently. Usually it is one of three things: a clearer answer in the first lines, a comparison table, or fresher data with a date on it.

We then change our page to fix that gap and keep tracking. Some changes show up within a few weeks, others not at all, which is exactly why the tracking matters: it tells you which edits were worth making.

For the broader set of AI visibility tools beyond Google, see the best LLM SEO tools. If you would rather hand the tracking and fixes over, our answer engine optimization services include both.

It includes AI Overview clicks and impressions in your web search data, but has no filter to separate them. Use trends, or a dedicated tracker, to see the effect.

Otterly.AI is among the cheapest at around $29 a month in 2026 reviews, and Search Console is free for trend data. The manual method on this page costs nothing but time.

For most teams, the rank tracker they already use: Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking and AccuRanker all track AI Overviews now. SE Ranking is the best value if you are choosing from scratch.

Not a reliable one at scale. Search your key terms in a private, signed-out browser window and log whether an Overview appears and who it cites, weekly for a month.

Several do now, including Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking and AccuRanker (as an add-on). Check that the plan you choose includes citation tracking, not just presence.

Weekly is enough for most sites. Overviews change from day to day, so look at trends rather than single results.

An AI Overview above your result may be answering the question. Studies by Pew Research and Ahrefs found substantially lower click-through rates when an Overview appears.

They show where you stand and who is cited instead. Getting cited comes from clearer answers, evidence and strong rankings.
